[Christ. Was this really the only option? What if it wasn't, and he shot her anyway, and things carried on? Or got worse? His gun lowered a fraction of an inch, for a fraction of a second. Then he was straightening his arm and his back. If he killed her, she'd just come right back. There were less consequences on this boat than in the real world. (Of course, in the real world he'd never had to deal with curses, but that's beside the point.)
